2013 Egypt Junior & Cadet Open - Doo Hoi Kem Secures Career First ITTF Junior Circuit Title

The runner up in Italy and France in 2011, again one year later in Spain; at the fourth time of asking it was the top prize for Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem.

She won the Junior Girls’ Singles title at the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open in Ismailia on Sunday 23rd June 2013, securing victory in a thrilling final against Ariel Hsing of the United States, the second seed.

Occupying the third seeded position in the draw, Doo Hoi Kem excelled on the concluding day of play.

Prior to gaining success in the gold medal contest, she overcame the hitherto unbeaten Seira Ushijima in the semi-finals; the player had guided Japan to Junior Girls’ Team success earlier in the week.

Doo Hoi Kem beat Seira Ushijima in five games (10-12, 11-4, 11-2, 11-8, 11-5), before securing the top prize at the expense of Ariel Hsing by the minimal two point margin in a dramatic final (9-11, 11-2, 7-11, 11-6, 8-11, 12-10, 12-10).

In the counterpart semi-final, Ariel Hsing had overcome Seira Ushijima’s colleague, Yurika Taira in six games (11-8, 11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 6-11, 11-8).

Also there was gold for Hong Kong in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles competition.

Mak Tze Wing and Soo Wai Yam overcame Egypt’s Malak Khory and Amira Yousry by the minimal margin in the deciding fifth game (5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9), before securing the title at the expense of the two singles finalists, Hung Hung and Lee Yu-Peng (11-9, 10-12, 13-11, 11-8).

At the semi-final stage, Hung Hung and Lee Yu-Peng had beaten Nigeria’s Agnes Onoya and Esther Oribamise (11-6, 11-8, 11-8).

Meanwhile, in the Junior Boys’ Doubles event there were bronze medals for Kwan Man Ho, Lam Siu Hang and Li Hon Ming.

Kwan Man Ho partnered Martin Khatchanov of the Netherlands, the duo losing to the champions elect, Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Poland’s Patryk Zatowka in the semi-finals (9-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-4); whilst at the same stage Lam Sui Hang and Li Hon Ming experienced defeat at the hands of Chinese Taipei’s Sui Chia-Hung and Yang Heng-Wei (11-9, 11-4, 11-6).

Bronze medals for Hong Kong, it was the same in the Junior Girls’ Doubles ever where Doo Hoi Kem and Lam Yee Lok suffered defeat.

They were beaten by the eventual champions, Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Ssu-Hua and Huang Yu-Wen (11-5, 12-10, 6-11, 11-9).
