2013 Egypt Junior & Cadet Open - Soo Wai Yam and Mak Tze Wing Reign Supreme in Ismailia

Hong Kong dominated matters in the Cadet Girls’ Team event at the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open in Ismailia on Thursday 20th June 2013.

They secured gold without the loss of a single individual match at any stage of proceedings. Soo Wai Yam and Mak Tze Wing proved themselves head and shoulders above all opposition.

In the second stage of proceedings, they recorded a three-nil semi-final win over the Nigerian partnership of Agnes Onoja and Esther Orabamise, before securing the title in a similar commanding fashion by overcoming the Egypt ‘A’ Team pairing of Malak Khory and Amira Yoursy.

Gold in the Cadet Girls’ Team event but in both the Junior Boys’ and Junior Girls’ Team events it was silver.

In the final of the Junior Boys’ Team event, they suffered defeat at the hands of Chinese Taipei who placed their trust in Sun Chia-Hung and Yang Heng-Wei.

Sun Chia-Hung beat Li Hon Ming (11-4, 12-10, 8-11, 10-12, 11-9), before Yang Heng-Wei defeated Lam Siu Hang (11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-6) and with no changes to either team’s line up, the doubles brought matters to a conclusion (14-12, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 12-10).

The three-nil score-line was somewhat harsh on Hong Kong with two of the three matches going the full distance; furthermore, the Hong Kong duo had been impressive en route the final.

At the quarter-final stage they had beaten the Singaporean partnership of Lim Zheng Jie Edric and Yin Jing Yan by three matches to nil, before handing out the same punishment to the duo formed by Allen Wang of the United States ad Thailand’s Padasak Tanviriyavechakul.

A hard fought final, the counterpart Junior Girls’ Team final was an ever harder fought contest.

Japan won the first two matches with Yurika Taira beating Doo Hoi Kem (11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8) and Seira Ushikima overcoming Lam Yee Lok (11-4, 11-8, 11-7).

Hong Kong recovered, Doo Hoi Kem and Lam Yee Lok overcame Yurika Taira and Mayuka Taira to win the doubles (18-16, 11-5, 3-11, 11-8) with Doo Hoi Kem levelling matters by beating Seira Ushijima (11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6).

However, a notable recovery was thwarted; Yurika Taira beat Lam Yee Lok to bring matters to a somewhat abrupt conclusion (11-8, 11-5, 11-6).

En route to the final, Hong Kong had beaten Chinese Taipei ‘B’ in the quarter-finals by three matches to one with Doo Hoi Kem being the backbone of success.

She beat Lee Yu-Peng (11-4, 11-8, 11-7) and Lin Chia-Hsuan (11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-4); whilst sandwiched in between partnering Lam Yee Lok to doubles success over Lin Chia-Hsuan and Lin Chia-Yu (11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-4).

The one win for Chinese Taipei ‘B’ came in the second match of the fixture with Lin Chia-Hsuan overcoming Lam Yee Lok in a full distance five games encounter (15-13, 3-11, 13-11, 6-11, 11-8).

Success in the quarter-finals over Chinese Taipei ‘B’, in the semi-finals it was success against the Chinese Taipei ‘A’ Team duo of Chiu Ssu-Hua and Huang Yu-Wen; this time with no hiccups.
