2013 Egypt Junior & Cadet Open - Hong Kong Sets Example in Ismailia

Hong Kong very much set the tone in the first stage of the Junior Boys’ Team event at the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open in Ismailia on the opening day of play, Wednesday 19th June 2013.

 

The top seeded duo of Lam Siu Hang and Li Hon Ming imposed their authority on proceedings by recording a three matches to nil victory over the Egypt ‘C’ Team formed by Ahmed Dabous and Amed Mabrouk, before handing out the same punishment to the India ‘A’ Team partnership of Utkarsh Gupta and Sabhya Virmani.

 

Equally their Hong Kong colleague, Kwan Man Ho enjoyed success; he lined up alongside Brazil’s Hugo Calderano, the pair occupying the third seeded position in the event.

 

Stout Opposition from Singapore
They overcame the Egypt ‘D’ Team trio of Abdel-Rahman Sobhy, Mostafa Baha El-Din and Ahmed Abaza by three matches to nil, before facing stout opposition in the form of Singapore’s Yin Jing Yuan and Lim Zheng Jie.

 

Yin King Yuan beat Kwan Man Ho in the opening match of the fixture (11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7) but that was the end of Singaporean success.

 

Hugo Calderano accounted for Lim Zheng Jie (13-11, 11-9, 11-3) and Yin Jing Yuan (11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7); whilst sandwiched in between joining forces with Kwan Man Ho to secure the doubles (9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6).

 

Less Fraught
A testing encounter against Singapore, it was less testing in the fixture that brought the day to a conclusion.

 

Hugo Calderano and Kwan Man Ho posted a three matches to nil win over the Saudia Arabia ‘B’ Team of Ali Alzaher and Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi.

 

Chinese Taipei Squad Tops Group
Success for Hong Kong and there was also success for the second seeded Chinese Taipei squad of Sun Chai-Hung, Huang Chien-Tu and Yang Heng-Wei.

 

They recorded three-nil wins on each visit to the table; in fine style they accounted for the Saudi Arabia ‘A’ Team partnership of Ali Khadrawi and Muhamed Al Sharif before handing out the same punishment to the Egypt ‘B’ Team formed by Mahmoud Nabil and Mahmoud Fathy.

 

Two commanding wins; the Chinese Taipei outfit concluded the day in the same fashion overcoming the combination of Egypt’s Hady Eldamshary and Jordan’s Zeyed Aldmaisy to secure first place in the group.

 

Padasak Tanviriyavechakul Outstanding
First place in the group for the top three seeded teams and it was the same scenario for the fourth seeds, with Thailand’s Padasak Taviriyavechakul very much the man in form.

 

He partnered Allen Wang of the United States and proved the backbone of success.

 

Versus India 'B'

In opposition to India ‘B’ a three-one win was secured as it was in opposition to Egypt ‘A’.

 

Against India ‘B’, he overcame Hamanshu Jindal (11-3, 11-7, 11-3) and Ayush Tayal (11-9, 11-5, 11-7); whilst partnering Allen Wang to doubles success (12-10, 11-9, 11-9).

 

The one win for India ‘B’ came from Ayush Tayal. In the opening match of the contest he overcame Allen Wang in a close five games duel (4-11, 11-7, 13-15, 14-12, 11-9).

 

Form Maintained Against India
Similarly, against Egypt ‘A’, Padasak Tanviriyavechakul was imperious.

 

He beat Aly Ghallab (11-8, 11-8, 15-13) and Shady Magdy (15-13, 11-2, 11-4); whilst partnering Allen Wang to what proved to be a crucial doubles five games victory (7-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9). The one win for Egypt ‘A’ came from Shady Magdy; he overcame Allen Wang (11-8, 11-4, 11-2).

 

Singaporeans Cause Upset
Meanwhile, in the Cadet Boys’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team events, where in each competition there are two groups in the initial stage, it was Singapore ‘B’ represented by Poh Shao Feng Ethan and Lucas Tan who caused an upset.

 

Occupying the no.3 seeded position in the draw, they beat the second seeded Egypt ‘B’ Team duo of Omar Elhamady and Youssef Abdel-Aziz by three matches to nil to secure first place in the group and thus emulated their compatriots Loy Meng Hean and Tay Ming Han Maxxe.

 

The top seeds, likewise they finished in first place in their group.

 

First Places for Top Two Seeds
Success for the top seeds in the Cadet Boys’ Team event, in the Cadet Girls’ Team competition it was success for the top two seeded outfits.

 

Hong Kong with Mak Tze Wing and Soo Wai Yam on duty, the no.1 seeds, finished in first place in their group, as did Egypt ‘A’, the second seeds who selected from Rahma Baher, Malak Khory and Amira Yousry.
