Cadet Title for Hung Ka Tak, Lam Siu Hang and Li Hon Ming Striked Boys’ Doubles Gold
Hung Ka Tak added to his ever growing collection of silverware by winning the Cadet Boys’ Singles title at the Thailand Junior and Cadet Open in Bangkok on Wednesday 8th May 2013.
Surprising defeated in the second round of the Junior Boys’ Singles event by Korea’s Kim Moogang (12-10, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9) on the penultimate day of play, the 15 year old from Hong Kong responded in style on the concluding day of action.
He overcame Indonesia’s Ronald Kadeira (11-4, 11-6, 11-8), Singapore’s Poh Shao Feng Ethan (14-12, 14-12, 11-8) and Chinese Taipei’s Yu Cheng-Feng (11-4, 11-6, 11-5) to arrest the title.
Cadet Boys’ Singles success for Hong Kong; there was more gold on the final day of play in Bangkok. Lam Siu Hang and Li Hon Ming won the Junior Boys’ Doubles event.
They overcame Thailand’s Peeranat Dibyamandala and Kotcharuk Sookpraserd in the semi-finals (8-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-1), before accounting for Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tai-Wei and Wen Wei-Chieh (11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7) in the final.
Gold in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles event, in the Junior Boys’ Singles and Cadet Boys’ Doubles competitions there were respective bronze and silver medals for Hong Kong.
Lam Siu Hang reached the semi-finals of the Junior Boys’ Singles, where he was beaten by Kim Moogang by the very narrowest of seven games margins (11-3, 5-11, 7-11, 9-11, 11-3, 13-11, 11-9); whilst Chu Hoi Man and Hung Ka Tak progressed to the final of the Cadet Boys’ Singles event where they suffered defeat at the hands of Chinese Taipei’s Lai Chi-Chien and Yu Chen-Feng (4-11, 12-10, 14-12, 11-8).
The winner of the Junior Boys’ Singles title was Thailand’s Padasak Tanviriyavechakul; at the final hurdle he overcame Kim Moogang in four straight games (11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 12-10).
Meanwhile, for the girls, it was runners up spot for both Lam Yee Lok and Mak Tze Wing.
Lam Yee Lok, after overcoming Thailand’s Apichaya Sritavarit (11-5, 11-8, 11-8, 12-10) in the quarter-finals of the Junior Girls’ Singles event, accounted Indonesia’s Rina Sintya in the penultimate round (12-10, 2-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-4, 11-9), before being beaten by the defensive skills of Japan’s Hitomi Sato in the final (11-3, 11-2, 11-4, 11-8).
Similarly, it was the second step of the medal podium for Mak Tze Wing in the Cadet Girls’ Singles competition.
She was beaten by Korea’s Yoon Hyobin in the final (5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9), having overcome Chinese Taipei’s Tsai Yu-Chin in the quarter-finals (11-8, 7-11, 11-4, 11-6) and Indonesia’s Novita Oktariyan in the semi-finals (11-4, 11-6, 11-2).
An impressive display by Mak Tze Wing and also Liu Qi was impressive in the Cadet Girls’ Singles competition.
She departed with a bronze medal being beaten by Yoon Hyobin in the semi-finals (10-12, 11-8, 11-6, 11-13, 11-5); at the quarter-final stage, she ousted Indonesia’s Titin Aida.
