Led by 15 year old Hung Ka Tak, bronze medallist in the Boys’ Singles event at the ITTF Cadet Challenge in Guam last November, Hong Kong occupies the top seeded position in the Junior Boys’ Team event at the Thailand Junior and Cadet Open.
Proceedings start in Bangkok on Saturday 4th May 2013.
One of the most travelled players on the ITTF Junior Circuit in 2012; in Bangkok, Hung Ka Tak is supported by Lam Sui Hang and Li Hon Ming, the whole trio being very prominent on the latest ITTF Junior Boys’ Standings.
Hung Ka Tak is at no.8, Li Hon Ming at no.13 and Lam Sui Hang at no.18.
In an event where there are three groups in the first stage, the principal challenge to Hong Kong comes from Chinese Taipei.
They field the trio of Wang Tai-Wei, Wen Wei-Chieh and Yu Cheng-Feng; for Yu Cheng-Feng it is his debut on the ITTF Junior Circuit in 2013 but not for his colleagues.
Wen Wei-Chien and Wang Tai-Wei both played in the Bahrain, the first tournament of the year on the ITTF Junior Circuit and with success. Wen Wei-Chieh overcame Wang Tai-Wei in the final of the Junior Boys’ Singles event.
Thailand, selecting from Padasak Tanviriyavechakul, Suchat Pitakgulsiri, Max Poungsri and Satapon Jermplong, occupy the third seeded position in the competition, with Sweden’s Elias Ranefur, Jonas Stener and Hannes Iwarsson being the fourth seeds.
Similarly, in both the Cadet Boys’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team events, Hong Kong is prominent.
Chu Hoi Man, Kwan Man Ho and Ma Tsz Shun form the Hong Kong outfit in the Cadet Boys’ Team event and occupy the second seeded place in the draw, behind one of the revelations of the year.
Qatar selecting the duo of Jassim Al-Sanadi and Abdulraham Al-Naggar reserve the top seeded place and will be seeking a hat-trick of titles.
Earlier this year they won in both Bahrain and Malta, whilst sharing the honours in the Cadet Boys’ Singles event.
Jassin Al-Sanadi won in Bahrain, Abdulraham Al-Naggar succeeded in Malta.
There are six groups in the first stage of the Cadet Boys’ Singles event.
Meanwhile, in the Cadet Girls’ Team competition, where there are three groups in in initial stage, Hong Kong occupies the top two seeded position.
Represented by Mak Tze Wing and Wong Wing Tung; Hong Kong ‘B’ are the top seeds with Vaness Leung Tsz Ching and Liu Qi of Hong Kong ‘A’ being the second seeds.
The only event in which Hong Kong does not appear amongst the top two seeded names is the Junior Girls’ Singles competition in which the host nation heads the list.
Tamolwan Khetkuan, Piyaporn Pannak, Orawan Paranang and Apichaya Sritavarit form the Thailand ‘A’ Team, with Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chia-Hsuan, Lin Chia-Yu and Chen Yen-Hsin comprising the second seeded outfit.
Thailand ‘B’ represented by Laksika Thongsub, Pisittha Makumporn Pisittha, Chano Duangsedwong and Kornchanok Sukhom occupy the third seeded place, with Hong Kong’s Lam Yee Lok joining forces with Hitomi Sato and Yukiho Tamaishi to form the fourth seeded outfit.

Play commences at 9.00am local time on Saturday 10th May with play in the Cadet Boys’ and Cadet Girls’ Team events.
