MAK King Ho has been nominated to paticipate in the Olympism Camp which was held from 20-22 February 2013 in Cheung Chau. Below is Mak King Ho's feeling for sharing.
First of all, I am very honoured to be given this opportunity to participate in the Olympism camp and offered me the chance to connect with players from the other fields and to share our experiences with each other. Before going to the Olympism camp, I was extremely looking forward to the challenge. This camp had a total of 32 athletes; however, since I was the only table tennis athlete, I was not initially close with any of the others. During the days, we fought hard and created an amazing team spirit in which was definitely an incredible experience to me and I enjoyed every single moment that I have spent with the others. Even though I was not able to fully mingle with every other athlete during the camp, I made the most of my time to share my experiences with many of them.
Time passed by quickly especially when I was enjoying. We accomplished a lot of tasks assigned by the organizers, just to name a few, the nightwalk, the different missions allocated and the cooking event. There is one common point along these activities, which is that it symbolises the importance of team work and team spirit. I believe that our group managed to complete all these tasks because of the high level of team spirit that we exemplified as a group.
Also, I would like to make use of this chance to reiterate the significance of the Olympic spirit – respect, excellence and friendship. Respect is a fundamental aspect which is not simply meaning just to respect between the athletes but also the extremely friendly staff who are always there to guide us through the hard times and moments. Therefore, I would like to give my greatest appreciation and gratitude towards the staff, as without them, I would not be able to gain these 3 days of unforgettable experiences. Excellence conveyed the art of perfection through communication.
Through this camp, I have learnt that by communicating and sharing my experiences with others, I have been able to reflect upon myself and therefore, constantly remind myself that the utmost focus of my life at this point is no other, but table tennis. I realized that I would be able to learn the most by doing self-reflection but not by criticisms. Friendship has also signified the amicability, devotion and understanding between athletes. During the 3 days of camp, we created an exceptional bond between each other in that no matter what difficulties we were facing, we were always there to support each other and fight together hand in hand. From this experience, I once again reinforce the importance of going a step further to achieve my dream and this camp has certainly took a huge step in assisting me to achieve it in the future. By genuinely experiencing the Olympic spirit at the camp, I recognise the importance of each and every aspect of it and realize that maybe these aspects are the ones that are missing in my life in order to succeed.
