Defeat in the quarter-finals of the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz on Thursday 6th March 2013, was not the result Hong Kong’s Lam Yee Lok desired but the effect of reaching the last eight is an outcome very much desired.
The winner one week earlier in Italy, she climbs one place to the top of the ITTF Junior Girls’ Standing with 1,920 points.
She replaces Sweden’s Linda Bergström, not present in Metz, who drops to third place.
Furthermore, she is not the only from Hong Kong player to benefit from European exploits.
Progress for Minnie Soo Wai Yam
Minnie Soo Wai Yam moves from tenth to third place and owns 1,710 points, being one place behind Japan’s Ayane Morita, the player against whom she suffered defeat in the Metz final.
Previously at no.29, Ayane Morita is now is second place with 1,740 points.
Hong Kong Boys Climb List
Progress for two girls from Hong Kong and there is progress for two boys; Hung Ka Tak and Li Hon Ming, both quarter-finalists in the Junior Boys’ Singles event on French soil make worthy progress.
Hung Ka Tak moves from no.10 to no.6 and has 1,200 points; whilst Li Hong Ming advances from no.15 to no.10. He now owns 960 points.
Also, there is one further player from Hong Kong in the top 20 of the Junior Boys’ Standings; Lam Sui Hang, who departed proceedings in the second round in Metz, is at no.14; one place lower than on the previous list.
Good News for France
Good news for Hong Kong and there is good news for the boys from the host nation.
Enzo Angles, the winner of the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the French Junior and Cadet Open climbs five places.
He is now at no.2 with 2,040 points, narrowing the gap on Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia-Sheng, the leader but not in action in Metz.
