The host nation proved the most successful country on view at the 3rd Asian Veteran Championships staged in Pattaya Thailand from Wednesday 25th to 29th May 2011; a tournament which Chan Foon Keong, for several years the ITTF representative on the Swaythling Club International Committee and currently the Chair of the Asian Table Tennis Union Veterans?Committee, attended.
Thailand secured a total of 20 medals of which six were gold, four of the silver variety and ten bronze.
Next in the order of merit came India, they secured three bronze, five silver and nine bronze medals; whilst Hong Kong collected two gold medals and Chinese Taipei two silver and two bronze.
Team Event Success for Hong Kong It was in the team events that Hong Kong came to the fore, they won both the Men 50 to 59 years competition and the Men 60 years plus event with the Men 40 to 49 competition going to Thailand and the Women 40 plus being secured by India.
One gold medal for the host nation in the team events but in the individual competitions it was a much different story. They won five of the seven titles on offer.
Success for Host Nation Men Tortienchian Prathan won the Men Singles 50 to 59 Years title, Torthienchai Vichien secured the Men Singles 60 to 64 Years crown; whilst Utsahamongkol Virat was crowned Men Singles 65 Years plus champion.
Ladies Strike Gold Three singles titles for Thailand men and two for the women.
Trivijitsilp Kwanta won the Women Singles 50 to 59 Years crown with Malaipan Savitree securing the 60 Years plus title.
Remaining Titles The remaining singles titles were won by India Chopra Harsh and Joshi Shilpa; the former secured the Men Singles 40 to 49 Years title whist the latter secured gold in the Women Singles 40 to 49 Years event.
