Bronze Medal the Reward at Korea Junior and Cadet Open

The colour bronze was the reward for the Hong Kong trio of Lam Yee Lok, Zhu Chengzhu and Mak Tze Wing in the Junior Girls’ Team event at the Korea Junior and Cadet Open in Yeosu on Thursday 24th July.

 

After recording a three-two win over Chinese Taipei ‘A’ at the quarter-final stage, they suffered a three-one defeat at the hands of China, the champions elect.

 

Mainstay of the victory in opposition to Chinese Taipei was Lam Ye Lok. She beat Su Pei-Ling (11-7, 11-7, 11-8) in the opening match of the engagement and in the very last match of the fixture when the pressure was mounting, she accounted for Lee En-Chi (11-4, 11-7, 10-12, 11-6).

 

The one further win for Hong Kong came from Zhu Chengzhu; in the second match of the fixture, she overcame Lee En-Chi (11-3, 3-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9).

 

Meanwhile, for Chinese Taipei, the wins were recorded by Chen Ying-Chen in the third match against Mak Tze-Wing (11-3, 4-11, 11-9, 11-6) and in the fourth duel when Su Pei-Ling defeated Zhu Chengzhu (11-9, 15-13, 3-11, 7-11, 11-9).

 

A place in the semi-final stage booked but against Japan it was to be defeat.

 

Winner of the Under 21 Women’s Singles title at the recent GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Korea Open; the defensive skills of 16 year old Hitomi Sato proved too strong for Hong Kong in the penultimate round and too strong for Korea ‘A’ in the final.

 

Against Hong Kong, Hitomi Sato overcame both Liu Qi (11-7, 11-7, 11-6) and Lam Yee Lok (11-7, 11-7, 11-6), before in the final defeating Lee Seul (11-4, 12-10, 11-2) and Lee Zion (11-9, 9-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8), a contest that was also decided in four matches.

 

The one further win against Hong Kong was recorded by Ayane Morita in the third match of the fixture in opposition Zhu Chengzhu (4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9) and at the same stage of proceedings in the final when facing Korea ‘A’.

 

Rira Ishikawa defeated Lee Yujin (8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6).

 

Success for Hong Kong came in the guise of Lam Yee Lok in opposition to Rira Ishikawa (2-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5) and for Korea ‘A’ from Lee Zion when confronting Ayane Morita (11-6, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4).

 

Proceedings in the team events over, attention now turns to the individual events which commence on Friday 25th July.
