2014 Asian Junior & Cadet Championships - Silver and Bronze, the Medals for Hong Kong in Mumbai

Silver and bronze were the medals for Hong Kong when matters concluded in Mumbai on Tuesday 16th September.

Ho Kwan Kit and Doo Hoi Kem finished in runners up spot in the Junior Mixed Doubles event; Doo Hoi Kem secured the third step of the medal podium in the Junior Girls’ Singles competition; whilst in the Junior Boys’ Doubles it was the same tier for Ho Kwan Kit and Hung Ka Tak.

Displaying an understanding from the very start; Ho Kwan Kit and Doo Hoi Kem accounted for Kazakhstan’s Kirill Gerassimenko and Yuliya Ryabova (8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-8) in their opening encounter, before Overcoming Korea’s Kim Minhyeok and Lee Seul (11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-2) to book their place in the semi-final.

Good form prior to the penultimate round; that good form was maintained. The duo accounted for Chinese Taipei’s Lia Cheng-Ting and Huang Yu-Chiao (11-4, 11-6, 12-10) before suffering defeat in the final against a second Chinese Taipei partnership in the guise of Sun Chia-Hung and Chiu Ssu-Hua (16-14, 5-11, 17-15, 11-8).

Meanwhile, in the Girls’ Singles event, Doo Hoi Kem accounted for China’s Chen Ke at the quarter-final stage (11-1, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7), before suffering a semi-final reverse at the expense of the latter’s colleague, Chen Xingtong (7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-8, 11-8) the champion elect.

A semi-final exit for Doo Hoi Kem; it was the very same for Ho Kwan Kit and Hung Ka Tak in the Junior Boys’ Doubles competition.

The Hong Kong duo recorded a second round win against Iran’s Soroosh Amiri Nia and Hamet Basht Bavi (11-6, 11-4, 8-11, 10-12, 11-8), before booking their place in the penultimate round courtesy of success in opposition to DPR Korea’s Ri Kwangmyong and An Jisung (9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6),

Alas there was to be no further progress; at the semi-final stage; Ho Kwan Kit and Hung Ka Tak suffered defeat against Japan’s Asuka Sakai and Yuto Kizukuri (13-11, 11-5, 11-8).

Defeat in the semi-finals, for Lee Ka Yee in the Cadet Girls’ Singles event and for Ho Kwan Kit in the Junior Boys’ Singles competition, it was farewell one round earlier.

Lee Ka Yee, after beating India’s Archana Girish Kamath (11-2, 11-1, 11-3), suffered defeat at the hands of China’s Mu Jingyu )11-4, 11-1, 11-3); whilst Ho Kwan Kit, victorious over Japan’s Kazuhiro Yoshimura (11-6, 11-2, 10-12, 5-11, 11-5, 11-5), experienced a reverse against China’s Liang Jinkun (13-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-9).

In the Cadet Boys’ Singles event, the most successful player from Hong Kong was Wong Ho Hei; he was beaten in round one by Korea’s Kim Daewoo (11-5, 11-8, 11-8); whilst in the Junior Girls’ Doubles it was a second round exit for the two pairs from Hong Kong.

Lam Yee Lok and Liu Qi suffered defeat against Korea’s Lee Yujin and Park Seri; Doo Hoi Kem and Minnie Soo Wai Yam departed at the hands of India’s Priyadarshini Das and Ayhika Mukherjee (11-7, 11-4, 7-11, 11-8).

Similarly in the Mixed Doubles event it was a second round exit for Hung Ka Tak and Minnie Soo Wai Yan; they were beaten by DPR Korea’s Kim Ok Chan and Kim Jingu (11-7, 12-10, 11-5)

Yu Ziyang won the Junior Boys’ Singles title beating Liang Jinkun in all Chinese final (11-7, 11-6. 6-11, 11-6, 11-7); whilst also in contest that saw China provide both finalists, Chen Xingtong beat Wang Manyu in the final (12-10, 8-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 4-11, 13-11) to claim the Junior Girls’ Singles crown.

Somewhat surprisingly an all Japanese final saw Kazuhiro Yoshimura and Yuma Tsuboi beat Asuka Sakai and Yuyo Kizukuri to claim the title (15-13, 11-9, 7-11, 12-14, 11-5) whilst in the Junior Girls’ Doubles it was success more success for Wang Manyu.

She partnered Chen Ke to a final victory over colleagues Chen Xingtong and Liu Gaoyang (11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10).

Success for China; there was more success. Sun Jingsha beat colleague Mu Jingyu (11-9, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7) in the final of the Cadet Girls’ Singles event; whilst in an all Korean affair, An Jaehyun beat Hwang Minha to secure the title (11-7, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6).
