Zhou Qihao Announces Arrival, Junior Boys¡¦ Singles Crown Secured on Debut

China¡¦s Zhou Qihao won the Junior Boys¡¦ Singles title at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Sunday 7th August 2011 and, in so doing, became one of the youngest winners in the history of the ITTF Junior Circuit.

Zhou Qihao is 14 years old and, being born in January 1997, he is eligible to play in the cadet age group, let alone junior age group events.

Not only is he eligible to compete in the cadet age group in 20011, he is young enough to play in such events in 2012!

Gu Ruochen Wins in Hong Kong to Open ITTF Junior Circuit Account

No world ranking and if she was not from the People¡¦s Republic of China it would have been a massive shock; 17 year old Gu Ruochen won the Junior Girls¡¦ Singles title at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open in Sunday 7th August 2011 and in so doing donned her first ever ITTF Junior Circuit Girls¡¦ Singles crown.

Victory for China was to be anticipated, three of the four Junior Girls¡¦ Singles semi-finalists were from the world¡¦s table tennis superpower, the trio had won the Junior Girls¡¦ Team event in style earlier in the week and none had been troubled en route the penultimate stage in the singles event.

Celebration Time for Chinese Taipei, Shock Cadet Singles Winners

It was celebration time for Chinese Taipei on the concluding day of action, Sunday 7th August 2011, at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open.

Liao Cheng-Ting and Huang Hu-Wen, both 15 years old, upset the seeding to win the respective Cadet Boys¡¦ and Cadet Girls¡¦ Singles titles in the splendid setting of the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.

The success recorded by Huang Hu-Wen was not to be anticipated; seeded no.6, her status did not suggest that she would stand proudly on the top step of the medal podium when the curtains closed.

Chinese Trio Continues in Relentless Manner to Reach Semi-Finals

Three Chinese teenagers completed the first phase in the Junior Girls¡¦ Singles event at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open, in first place in their respective groups.

All three, the full complement, thus reserved places in the main draw. One day later, on Saturday 6th August 2011, when play came to a conclusion, all three remained standing; all three reserved semi-final places.

Just as in the Junior Girls¡¦ Team event earlier in the week, when they had secured the top prize, they gave performances of sheer class and technical excellence.

Top Two Progress to Penultimate Stage but Next Two Bid Farewell

Chinese Taipei¡¦s Hung Tzu-Hsiang and Japan¡¦s Yuto Muramatsu, the top two seeds in the Junior Boys¡¦ Singles event at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open, duly progressed to the semi-final stage of proceedings, following successes on Saturday 6th August 2011.

However, for the next two names on the order of merit, the news was not good.

Both Japan¡¦s Asuka Sakai and the host association´s Chiu Chung Hei, the respective third and fourth seeds, bid farewell at the penultimate stage.

Chinese Taipei Recovers from Opening Day Defeat to Clinch Sensational Gold

A surprise defeat on the opening day of play for Chinese Taipei, the second seeds in the Junior Boys¡¦ Team event at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open, but when matters concluded on Thursday 4th August 2011, they stood the tallest.

Second place in their group in the first stage; Hung Tzu-Hsiang, Lee Chia-Sheng and Lai Yi-Yao had lost to the Japan ¡¥B¡¦ team comprising Masahiro Otsuka, Tonin Ryuzaki and Ryotaro Ogata.

However, the young men from Chinese Taipei responded in style to clinch the precious title.

Impressive on the first day of play, the Chinese outfit comprising Zhao Yan, Gu Ruochen and Hu Limei continued their relentless progress on the second day of action, Thursday 4th August 2011, in the Junior Girls¡¦ Team event at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open.

Only Chen Szu-Yu, who had celebrated her 17th birthday three days earlier on Monday 1st August, was able to make any impression.

She overcame Hu Limei (11-7, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9) in the semi-final contest that saw China post a three-one victory over Chinese Taipei.

Seedings Turned Upside Down by Oustanding Chinese Teenagers

Emphatic displays by China in both the Junior Boys¡¦ and Junior Girls¡¦ Team events at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Wednesday 3rd August 2011 upset the seeding, in fact they turned to order of merit upside down.

Listed in the final seeded place in the Junior Boys¡¦ Team event, the trio of Zhang Cheng, Zhou Qihao and Liang Jingkun finished the day without any member of the outfit being extended the full distance.

Meanwhile, in an almost similar manner the Junior Girls¡¦ outfit comprising Zhao Yan, Gu Ruochen and Hu Limei never surrendered a single match.

It is now less than one year to the lighting of the Olympic Flame to signal the start of the 2012 London Olympic Games; the torch starts its journey at Land's End on Saturday 19th May and travels 8,000 miles round the United Kingdom before arriving at the Olympic Stadium on Friday 27th July to ignite the cauldron.

Immediately prior to the ceremonial moment, the athletes and principal delegate will enter the arena. Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open Setting New Standards

Shining like a beacon in a star lit sky, the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open is the pearl of the ITTF Junior Circuit.

A Premium event, It is the tournament that in the past two years has set the standards for others to follow.


In 2011 it is set to maintain and even raise those standards. The tournament, staged from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th August, will once again be held in the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. A splendid setting for the five day event, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium was opened in 1980 and has a 3,500 seating capacity.

A Tradition of High Standards in Every Respect

In a Special Administrative Region of the People¡¦s Republic of China, the Nikon 2011 Hong Kong Junior Open has a special place on the ITTF Junior Circuit.

The speciality is excellence, not only excellence in the playing level from the region; also in tournament organisational standards.

In 2009 the first Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open received high accolades, the praise was repeated on 2010; now, in 2011 from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th August those standards will not only be maintained, undoubtedly they will be enhanced.

Invitation to Umpire at Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open

Acclaimed in both 2009 and 2010 as one of the very best organised and promoted tournaments on the ITTF Junior Circuit, the Nikon Hong Junior and Cadet Open will be staged in 2011 from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th August.

The Hong Kong Table Tennis Association invites six International Umpires to officiate in the event.

Applicants should be Blue Badge Umpires or candidates for the Blue Badge candidate.
